p53 is a tumour suppressor gene product, which is expressed by normal benign cells in low concentrations. Inside the human genome it is located on chromosome 17 and it is involved in regulation of transcription. Point mutations lead to formation of a p53 protein with modified conformation and elongated half-life. This leads to accumulation of p53 protein in nuclei of malignant cells. Over-expression of p53 via accumulation of the mutated form was demonstrated immunohistochemically for a variety of tumours, i.e. for breast, lung, colon, stomach, bladder and testis tumours as well as for soft tissue tumours and melanomas.

Clone: BP53-12
Isotype: IgG2a
Immunogen: Recombinant protein according to the wild type human p53.
Staining pattern: Nuclear.
Positive control: Tissue sample from breast carcinoma.

This antibody is designed for the specific localization of human p53 using IHC techniques in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections.
The expression of p53 is associated with poor prognosis in breast cancer. In colon tumors, p53 protein is expressed in 47% of cancers and only 9% of adenomas. You have found its expression in normal mucosa.
